Life before Gustavus
In high school, I involved myself in everything I possibly could, but my true passions lied within the music and theatre departments. I even took on the responsibility of being involved in the elementary plays, teaching the kids how to dance and sing. Even though I was active in school, I never missed an opportunity to hang with friends. High school was the start of my travel bug as I would call it, starting out traveling to New York City!
Why did you choose Gustavus?
My decision to attend Gustavus was a no-brainer. I knew instantly when I first visited GAC that it would be my home for four years to come. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, while the admission staff and students welcomed me with smiles on their faces, making me feel incredibly comfortable and right at home. It just felt right being at Gustavus.
Life at Gustavus
Currently at Gustavus, I am involved with the Speech and Debate team. I started Forensics when I was in 6th grade and have thus continued so far, enjoying every minute of it. I'm also involved with Lucia Singers, Communication Studies Executive Board, working in the Admission office, and I am also part of the sorority Delta Phi Omega on campus as well. I love being a Delta because we work with raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness, something that I am very passionate about. The Delta's make a huge difference on campus with all our volunteer work, but we also are a close group of girls who love to have fun together!
What has been your favorite academic experience?
So far at GAC, my favorite academic experience has been traveling to South Africa, Cape Town for the month of January. I took an intensive one month course on Identity, Resistance and Liberation in South Africa. South Africa opened my eyes to a whole new world, making me realize just what this world has to offer in many unique and different places.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
Honestly, my favorite food in the Market Place would have to be the cranberry muffins that you can get in the morning! When you first bite into one of those luscious cranberries, it’s this intense zing of fruit and tart. It wakes me up instantly every time they have them!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
I have never met teachers who care more about their students than at Gustavus. Between my speech coach or even the adults I work with in the admission office, I always see them outside of their job and willing wanting to chat with me. I have even gotten the opportunity to babysit for some along with having team dinners at some of their houses for special events.
What is your dream job?
If I could pick a dream job, and it's so cliche, but I would choose to be an actress. I love becoming somebody other than myself, portraying someone as I see they are. Being an actress would also help me with my other dream job of traveling. I would love to have a job that would require me to travel all around the world.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
If I could give advice to a prospective Gustie, it would be to come visit, and not just once, but as many times as you can. The more I came to visit, asked questions while I was there, and imagined myself walking around the campus, the more I loved it and the more I saw myself as a student at GAC.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I absolutely love Christmas in Christ Chapel. Each performance is completely different and magical in its own way. The very last song is always Oh Come A Ye Faithful, and every time it sends a shiver down my spine with how powerful and compelling the whole performance really is.
