Life before Gustavus
I absolutely loved high school! I was in volleyball, basketball, softball, student senate, SADD, Target, ROCORI Friends, and more. Outside of school I loved hanging out with my friends, and I can’t even count the number of hours we spent laying out on my lake.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
Gustavus had a great rep. for my high school; he was very personable and made continual contact throughout the year. Everything just seemed like a perfect fit, and it was! Also, I wanted to play volleyball in college, and I really liked what I had seen and heard about GAC’s athletic programs. Compared to other colleges, it was also the perfect distance from home.
Life at Gustavus
I play volleyball for the Gustavus Volleyball team, the Vice President of the Student Athletic Advisory Board, a member of Student Athlete Volunteer Educators, and play numerous intramural sports. You can usually find me living in Lund (especially during season), but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Otherwise, most of my time is spent studying or hanging out with my roommates at our house.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
My junior J-Term I studied abroad in London, England and various cities in France, including Paris! It has always been a life goal of mine to see the Eifel Tower, and I finally completed it! I think it’s a great experience to step out of your own culture and discover someone else’s! I would recommend to anyone who wants to study abroad to do it.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
BURRITOS!!!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
Mainly I talk with professors during class time, but I have utilized their office hours as well. All the professors are really good about making sure they are available to help you out, which I think is something that is unique to Gustavus.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to become and HR manager for a large company and eventually retire early. Then I want to get my degree and teach younger children for the rest of my working years.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
My advice to you is to live in the moment and cherish the time you have. I loved high school and college was amazing too, but it all went way too fast. Just make sure wherever you choose to go for college, that you’re going for yourself and not because others want you to go there. It’s the next step in you life-go with what feels right.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
The Dive-everyone needs to experience it. It’s a great place to get your groove on!
