Life before Gustavus
I was always involved in some sport during my high school career. I played softball, basketball, track, and volleyball. I was part of the National Honor Society for two years, one of two valedictorians of my class (if that makes sense), and was involved with Reach/SADD and Student Government for 4 years. The most incredible experience I have ever had was being selected to play softball in the National Hawaii Softball Tournament!
Why did you choose Gustavus?
I loved Gustavus the minute I stepped on campus. It is so well kept, everyone that I met was so welcoming, and I knew that I would get challenged with classes. I also loved how personal the teachers were and how they always give that extra push to get help when needed. Gustavus was also known for kids who were able to manage their time. Many of the students are involved in extracurriculars, such as intramurals, varsity sports, clubs, community service, etc., that they have to be able to do that. This appealed to me being that I am a very involved person and knowing that there were opportunities to get involved at Gustavus drew me in even more.
Life at Gustavus
I played Varsity softball my freshman year, play intramural softball, and volunteer for the Movin and Groovin program for little kids in Saint Peter.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
I would have to say that attending the Nobel Conference last year was my most memorable academic experience.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
The BEST dish at the Market Place would have to be Super Nachos! I love Mexican food!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
For my FTS class, the teacher invited the entire class over one night for pasta, breadsticks, and salad! It was so nice and he did it all by himself!
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to become a pediatric nurse! (hence why I am pursuing nursing)
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
Pick the college that best suits you and your needs! Don’t let your parents or peers influence your decision. You’re going to be the one who lives and goes to school there so you need to make sure you like it. Also, don’t apply too late. Get ahead of the game and apply right away to all the schools your thinking about going to. If you wait too long, you might not get in!
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
The best thing about Gustavus was having the Gustie Greeters line the entire hill up to Gustavus, yelling and cheering. It was a total ice-breaker! I didn’t feel nervous coming to college at all after that!
