Life before Gustavus
I loved hanging out with my friends, having nights dedicated to watching The Office, quoting Disney movies, playing with my amazing golden retriever Holly, getting free coffee from my friend Ellen, camping, outdoors stuff, ultimate, traveling, tennis, etc. My biggest accomplishment so far in life was my freshman year of HS, when I convinced my parents to get a dog. I made a very persuasive PowerPoint presentation. That Christmas, we opened our home to our very first dog, Holly!!! As far as meaningful opportunities and incredible experiences go, I was able to go to Mexico this past summer for my very last high school mission trip. We helped out in various kid programs, from preschools to VBS activities. I was able to use my Spanish a lot, which was so awesome. This trip was absolutely life changing, eye-opening, and just plain unforgettable.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
Gustavus was the college I got the best feel for. In my gut, I just knew this is where I’m meant to be. My favorite part of this place is the beautiful campus and the amazingly friendly people! Everyone here is so nice. I’m so thankful I found the college of my dreams.
Life at Gustavus
Well, at the present moment, I am in the process of getting involved. I love getting the chance to meet new people and doing things I love!
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
Oh man where do I begin? I love it all! The Chinese food has definitely been tasty, as well as the chicken strip wraps with chipotle sauce. I’ll never go hungry here.
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
Hopefully, I get a good chance to have a cool experience with my profs. They are all so personable, approachable, and helpful. They really put out a good vibe. I really feel that they are here for me. I can’t wait to get to know them better as the months go on.
What is your dream job?
I have always dreamed of becoming a dolphin trainer at Sea World. Laugh if you will, but I think it would be the most amazing job ever! I don’t know how I’d deal with the wetsuits though...
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
A Prospie Must: Do an overnight stay with a Gustie. Eat the amazingly delicious food. Get a personal tour, and get YOUR OWN personal feel for the campus. Get to know your admissions rep, because they are soooo awesome. Go with your gut, college is going to be your home for the next 4 years. It’s so important to get a good feel from the places you see, the people you meet, and the community any college promotes. Gustavus had exactly what I was looking for in a college. I struggled on my college decision up until the last minute when I finally realized that my gut had been right all along.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
Wow. I’ve heard about so many traditions here. I guess I’m just excited for them all. From Christmas in Christ’s Chapel to the Haunted House in Norelius! As far as weekly events go, I’m pumped about the outside movie weekends, as well as late night laundry Saturdays with my friends!!! I’m so stoked to be able to do these things now that I’m finally here!
