Life before Gustavus
In high school I played tennis all the time! I played on my high school tennis team all four years and was fortunate enough to be a part of a team that finished second in the state of Minnesota three out of the four years I was there! I also finished 3rd in the state for singles my Junior year! I also loved being an editor for my high school newspaper!
Why did you choose Gustavus?
Personally I wanted to go to a school where I could play on a competitive tennis team while living on a campus that had the feeling of community and a strong academic environment! All the Division 1 schools that I looked at couldn’t offer me the amazing atmosphere and support system that a small private school like Gustavus does!
Life at Gustavus
Tennis takes up a lot of my time at Gustavus and I absolutely love it! It is so fun to be on a team that is consistently ranked among the top ten teams in the nation for Division 3! I am also the sports reporter for GAC TV, a member of the Communication Studies Board, and a member of SAVE which is a program that educates athletes on campus to make healthy lifestyle choices.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
My favorite academic experience would have to be taking Public Discourse in the fall of my sophomore year. The course was centered on a semester-long project that involved taking a stance on an issue that you wanted changed in your community. I spent an entire semester researching a water contamination in my home community and learned a lot about what it means to take a stance and argue for change in regards to an important issue.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
My favorite food is pasta with fettuccine alfredo sauce!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
All of my professors have been extremely helpful outside of the classroom! They have all been more than willing to take time out of their day to talk to me about assignments, academic endeavors, to give me advice, or just to chat!
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be working as a sports reporter or anchor for ESPN!
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
College is fun! You will most likely love wherever you end up! Once you are well into your college career you will look back and laugh about how apprehensive you were! These are the best years of your life! So relax, everything will work out! Just enjoy the journey!
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I love the spring at Gustavus! When the hill is full of pink cherry blossoms and everyone lies out on the hill studying and enjoying the gorgeous view!
