Life before Gustavus
I really enjoyed high school. I received 3 academic letters and participated in 3 sports throughout high school. I have 4 school records for Track and Field and really enjoyed my experience on the team. My coaches taught me a lot and were great roll models. I was co-captain on the volleyball team for 2 years and made a lot of lasting friendships throughout my career. I was lucky enough to go to the National Honor Society National Conference in Orlando, Florida my senior year with our adviser and twelve of my close friends. I led a group activity at the National Conference and we had an extremely memorable experience there.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
The minute that I was on the campus at Gustavus I knew that it was the school for me. I had a really good feeling about it and everything felt right. It was also nice that Gustavus is only 40 minutes from my home because I have a close relationship with my family. Knowing that I could play volleyball and run track and field here really topped it off.
Life at Gustavus
At Gustavus I am involved in volleyball, track and field, G.O.L.D. Leadership and intramural sports. I really enjoy being a part of a team and the opportunities I have had because of these activities have helped shape who I am. Most of my time is spent in class, studying and going to practice. I am most passionate about volleyball and track and field at Gustavus. Not only do I have a lot of great teammates but they have also become part of my family. Without my teammates, friends, and my coaches I wouldn’t be as happy at Gustavus.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
My first term seminar class has been the most meaningful and memorable academic experience for me. My professor, Michele Rusinko, has helped me out since day one. She helped make the transition from high school to college an easier one and opened my eyes to a lot of things. I won’t ever forget that class or her and all of the things that she has done for me.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
I really love the pineapple and chocolate milk!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
I really appreciate how available and helpful the professors at Gustavus are but so far I have mainly just visited professors during office hours or talked with them through email. I have met Michele Rusinko for lunch a couple times though.
What is your dream job?
I would be a professional athlete.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
I would highly suggest visiting the campus before you decide where to go. It is crucial to trust your instincts with the feeling you get from the campus. I would also suggest that student-athletes pick the school based on academics and other programs, not just the sport they want to play.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I really enjoy going to all the different sporting events. I also like the on going tradition of painting the Old Main rock, it makes for a good team bonding activity.
