Life before Gustavus
I enjoyed many leaderships roles and participating in many sports in high school. I was the captain of cross-country, track, and Nordic skiing. Also I achieved my Eagle in boy scouts and was the Vice president of the National Honors Society. One really incredible experience I had in high school was when I was in 10th grade; our German class took a trip to Germany for a month.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
I mainly choose Gustavus for its strong science programs. I also love the state of Minnesota, so I wanted to stay in the state. Also, participating in sports was very important to me. I wanted to continue to run cross country and track here at GAC.
Life at Gustavus
I participate in cross country and track here at GAC. I also am a student leader in the cafe. I participate in cross country and track because I love running. I have been doing it since the 6th grade. Running does take up a lot of time but I feel it is an important part of my life style that is worth the time commitment.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
So far there have been two classes that have made a huge impression on me, social psychology and interpreting spring landscape. Both of these classes were fun and exciting for me. I was able to learn about theories that I have never dreamed of before. Those two classes really opened a lot of ideas in my mind about life.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
I love the pasta, maybe because as a runner we eat it so much. I usually eat pasta 5 days a week.
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
Mark Kruger in the psychology department was my social psychology professor. We have occasionally met up to discuss interesting psychological phenomena not related to subjects discussed in class.
What is your dream job?
Probably become a techno DJ.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
It’s normal to be stressed out about college at this point in your life. It means you are concerned about your future, and you want it to turn out favorably. For some students they know that they belong at a certain college. But if that doesn’t happen to you don’t worry, you have to weigh the options both logically and emotionally. College will probably be one of the most exciting and fun times in your life. I have seen that a place like Gustavus will make many types of personalities feel right at home.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I enjoy the cross country traditions that have lasted through out many years, I also like the alumni reunions during homecoming, as a cafe employee, I worked that event this year and it looked like a blast.
