Life before Gustavus
I performed in dozens of different venues all over central Florida and also in Tennessee and Texas. I enjoyed playing in numerous orchestra pits for various central Florida musicals, such as The Wizard of Oz, Suessical the Musical, and other fun theatrical pieces with my best friends.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
I chose Gustavus because I wanted to learn and perform music in an environment that is very open-minded, new, and constantly changing for the better. Gustavus also appealed to me because the faculty and staff were very warming, unlike other colleges that I had visited.
Life at Gustavus
I am currently being trained to be the assistant to the philosophy department, I’m in Epsilon Pi Alpha, an on campus fraternity of excellence and determination, and serve as the Community Service Chair. I also take pride in being a part of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, and The Gustavus Jazz Combo. I also play Rugby when I can attend the weekend games! I became involve with all of this simply because I had an interest in all of it. Gustavus made this possible, thanks to its liberal arts program that allows me to do many things and not have a required discipline in it. The activity that takes up most of my time and with which I am most passionate about is the area of music!
What has been your favorite academic experience?
My most memorable academic experience so far happened during the first semester of my Sophomore year. I was enrolled in the course Principles of Geology and had a lab field trip that, in all of its entirety, explained how, over the course of millions of years, the town of St. Peter was formed!
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
My favorite food in the Market Place is, by far, the Creamy Spinach Soup!!! Yummy...I want some now, actually!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
I have lunch with some of my professors, get coffee/tea with some professors, play on gigs with some professors, and I’ve even played a couple games of racquetball with one professor! During office hours, all of my professors or more than happy to help me with any problems, questions, or concerns that I may have, which is a very comforting feeling!
What is your dream job?
I would perform on tours, part-time, performing for millions, travel all round the world doing Geologic research on the ever-changing structure of Mother Earth, and I would sell the books that I have written about the Interrelational Behaviors between Parents and their children, to countless colleges across the world...that’s it...!
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
Follow your heart and Chill!
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
My favorite Gustavus tradition is the Annual Nobel Conference that the Nobel association holds every year here at Gustavus Adolphus College.
