Life before Gustavus
In High School I believe two of the activities I was involved with that shaped my life were Varsity Swimming which I was a part of for 4 years and Camp Olympia’s Leadership Programs. Both of these activities were large parts of my life and I have briefly described below.Camp Leadership Program (CLP), 2004 CLP is a leadership program in which past campers are selected for a three-week training experience. For one week, I earned my Life Guard Certification; the second week, our group went to Colorado and I climbed a mountain, went white water rafting, and participated in additional leadership training. During the third week, I had the chance to work with campers and shadowed counselors. CLP was a physical challenge and also a mental and spiritual experience. I was chosen by Camp Staff and my peers as Outstanding CLP Participant. CLP helped me grow and opened my eyes to many new experiences. •

SPARK Awards SPARK is the highest award that is given every year by the Counselors and Camp Staff to a camper in each age level who shows leadership, positive attitude, respect, and responsibility. I was awarded SPARK for two years – my second and third years at Camp – and I felt honored that the staff believed that I exemplify these qualities. Varsity Swimming/Diving:

Why did you choose Gustavus?
When I visited Gustavus I knew I was at home. The fell in love with the people and the family like environment. Gustavus is my home away from home and I could tell that on my first and only visit. I knew in my heart this was a place I could excel and be molded into the person I am today.
Life at Gustavus
Here at Gustavus I am very involved. I love working with people, I am extremely creative, and love planning events that bring people together. My activities reflect my passions. I am a Gustie Greeter, I have been Social Chair of my Sorority: Theta Xi Gamma, I have been Educational Chair for Inter Greek Senate which was a role in which I organized Educational Events for the entire Greek Community, and I am currently the one of the Co-Presidents of my Sorority Theta Xi Gamma.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
My favorite course here at Gustavus would have to be Interpersonal Communications. In this class we talked about a broad spectrum of things that are relevant to every day life and how we communicate effectively with people.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
My favorite food in the Market Place would have to be Party Potatoes. The Market Place has them very rarely but when they do have them I eat them with every meal.
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
The Communication Studies Department hosts Monday Night Meals at Trinity Lutheran Church in Saint Peter. I have helped serve food there and many of my professors help out as well.
What is your dream job?
I would love to be a travel show host. If you have ever watched the Travel Channel my dream job would be to take over Samantha Brown’s show but I would like to gear it more toward the age rage of college students to late 20’s. I think that being able to see the world is an important experience any young person should have. As a young person I have a burning desire to see and experience everything the world has to offer and I would like to share my experiences with people my age. So they can get the bug as well.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
Jump in head first. Do not be afraid to try anything. Gustavus is a nurturing environment in which talents can be explored.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I think that Gustavus has the best school spirit in the state of Minnesota. You can tell when you walk around campus that each and every student is proud to be a Golden Gustie.
