Life before Gustavus
I lived in Bolivia for 19 years before I came to Gustavus for college. During high school I played 3 varsity sports (soccer, volleyball and track) and won all three championships my senior year. I also was involved in NHS all four years.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
Gustavus was the school with the best Economic/Management department from all the schools I applied too. But the main factor that made it possible for me to go to college was that Gustavus was the school that gave me the most financial aid, which made my college decision really easy.
Life at Gustavus
Besides school and working as a student leader, I am the president of my fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. This requires at least 3 hours of meeting every week and doing most of the planning and decision making for our events or future events that we might do.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
My favorite academic experience so far was my Organizational Behavior class with Kathy Tunheim. In this class I learned a lot of how the business world is and learned what to expect from the real world. In this class we had a major project that took my group all semester to complete. Our project consisted in coming up with real suggestions for expanding the physical space of the community service center.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
My favorite meals in the caf are Caesar salad and the chicken nuggets served at the Hello Wok on Tuesday and Thursdays.
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
Usually I just see them during office hours to talk about the class and say hello to them when I see them around campus.
What is your dream job?
My ideal job would be working on a bank, restaurant or hotel that will let me travel around the world.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
Start your college search ahead of time, have an idea of what you want to major in because this could affect your decision at the end. It is never a bad idea to ask for help or take help when offered to you.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
My favorite event at Gustavus would be going to most of the hockey games played at home and going to comedians whenever CAB brings them on campus.
