Life before Gustavus
I was involved in band, orchestra, marching band, and debate in high school. My most interesting opportunity was to march in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day with the marching band my sophomore year.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
My Mom works at Augustana College in Sioux Falls so I get tuition reduction at any Lutheran School. I chose Gustavus because some of my friends from high school in the grade above me said they enjoyed it, and my cousin said he loved it here.
Life at Gustavus
I spend most of my time in Olin working on physics. I also enjoy going to Hockey, and Soccer games because a lot of my friends are in the sports.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
Almost any physics lab is incredible when you can use the formula you have been working weeks to understand to predict what the outcome of an action will be and then preform that action in the lab.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
Beef burrito, but instead of the hot sauce they use, I snag some of the sirachi sauce from the Chinese line.
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
The only way that you can survive in physics is to have a close relationship to your professors. Due to the class sizes you get to know them well and spend a decent amount of time in their office.
What is your dream job?
Biking across the world.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
Chill out, no decision is final and you can always transfer to a different college. Give Gustavus a try though, you won’t find a more inviting or interesting campus.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
I love showing up at a soccer game with twenty other people cheering our friends to victory.
