Life before Gustavus
I worked a lot back in high school, went to London during my junior and senior year, and played golf.
Why did you choose Gustavus?
I really enjoy the location of Gustavus. It is close enough to a city but far enough away to breathe the fresh air and look at the clear sky. Oh yeah, and I liked all the carpeting in the buildings!
Life at Gustavus
I take fun Spanish classes, and am learning about ways in which we can make our world a peaceful world! I am also involved in Student Senate which gives me good experience for future political aspirations. I am a member of the GAC Swing Club where I love to dance (and throw my partners around recklessly). I am also involved with the GAC Democrats and helped out on the recent election campaigns. I am also in St. Ansgar's mens chorus, where we just sing for fun.
What has been your favorite academic experience?
So far my favorite class has been Cultures of Peace, my FTS. We have been reading about different aspirations throughout history for a culture of peace; it is very interesting. My favorite lesson was helping out at the Mankato Pow-Wow for my Cultural Anthropology class.
What is your favorite food in the Market Place?
My favorite food is probably the chicken chimichangas and macaroni and cheese on Thursdays. Actually my favorite food is anything chicken!
How do you interact with your professors outside the classroom?
Katy Stenger, a political science professor, and I were on the Boundary Waters Immersion trip before I started school here. I also have dinner and just chat with profs when I can - they have a wealth of experience.
What is your dream job?
I hope one day to be Secretary General of the U.N., but my real dream job would be to be a college or high school professor.
What advice would you give a prospective Gustie?
The best advice anyone will ever give you is just to go with the flow of the river of life. Don't let money or test scores stress you out, it will all eventually fall into place. College can be a little crazy, but if you let yourself have fun, it will be the most fun you will ever have.
What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
hmmm.....I haven't really been here long enough to know yet, my favorite so far is Wednesday night Swing Dances.
