Eligibility for need-based financial aid is determined on an annual basis by completing the CSS PROFILE and/or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with family financial data.
Many variables are taken into consideration including income and assets, number of dependents in the household, age of the parent(s), and number of dependents in college.
Financial aid awards will be similar from one year to the next if the family financial situation remains unchanged.
Grants are made to students who demonstrate financial eligibility based on information provided on the FAFSA. They do not need to be repaid.
- Federal Pell Grants are funded by the federal government and range from $400 to $4,000. Recipients are chosen according to a standardized federal formula which determines eligibility based on information provided on the FAFSA.
- Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG) are awarded to students with highest need. Gustavus selects the recipients of this federal funding based on the information provided on the FAFSA.
- Minnesota State Grants are awarded to Minnesota residents who graduate from a Minnesota high school and who demonstrate financial need. Recipients must complete the FAFSA to be considered for state grant money.
- Gustavus Grants are awarded to students who demonstrate financial eligibility, whose total eligibility cannot be met through other sources.
