Many students will receive a campus employment assignment as one component of their financial aid package. The maximum amount assigned is $2,000 per year, which equals 10-12 hours of work per week.
First-year students will have the opportunity to designate their top choices for their work location and will be assigned a job. You may find yourself video taping men's hockey practice, hanging art for a show in the gallery, caring for plants in the greenhouse, or maintaining departmental web sites.
The benefit of student employment at Gustavus is flexibility. Supervisors understand that students are students first and employees second and can alter schedules and make arrangements when notified ahead of time. This may not be the case with all off-campus employers.
Other jobs on campus not dependent on receiving a student employment award are working in the Dining Service, Physical Plant, Alumni Office, or student newspaper.
Being a college town, St. Peter businesses also need a workforce during the academic year and often hire Gustavus students. Nearby Mankato-- another college town-- also has many national chain stores and other typical employment opportunities for college students.
