COST

Cost, quality, and value. Along with all the other reasons to select a college, your family is very likely to consider these. What do you get for your investment? Are the opportunities worth the cost? Our costs for the 2008-09 academic year are:
|
Tuition |
$29,990 |
|
Room |
$4,710 |
|
Board |
$2,750 |
|
Fees |
$410 |
|
Total |
$37,860 |
Now, consider the outcomes:
-
80% of Gustavus students graduate in four years (compared to Minnesota private colleges’ average of 63% or the state college average of 15%!)
-
Last year, over 98% of our newest graduates were situated within six months of graduation—working, attending graduate school, volunteering, or otherwise doing what they want to be doing
Consider the experience:
-
Students can take an Interim Experience course (part of our 4-1-4 academic calendar) on campus each year; compared to other colleges, that’s like a ninth semester for no additional cost.
-
Few activities on campus require additional payment. Most student activities, such as athletic and music events, are free to students.
-
There is no additional charge for paper in the computer labs, laundry in the residence halls, voicemail in students’ rooms, computer support, and any student services like resume-writing assistance, tutoring, or technology advice.
Consider the assistance:
-
Over 70% of current students receive need-based financial assistance from Gustavus; over 90% receive some kind of aid, such as scholarships, grants, loans, or student employment.
-
Over $8 million in scholarships and grants are awarded to incoming Gustavus students.
Finally, consider your award. Read some frequently asked questions and answers about comparing financial aid awards.

To be fairer to families and acknowledge their individual circumstances, we carefully consider each family's eligibility for merit- and need-based aid. Therefore, we do not offer an online tuition calculator.
You can, however, explore your need-based aid eligibility by completing our Financial Aid Estimate form. The details necessary to determine eligibility for merit-based aid (scholarships) cannot be judged solely by a tuition calculator.
