Q:
How will I register for classes? What guidance services are available for academic planning?
-
A:
A Gustavus student's initial registration is completed directly with a faculty member in the summer before their first semester. During this registration, each first-year student chooses a First Term Seminar which is a small discussion and writing class. That student's First Term Seminar professor serves as their advisor for the first year.
After that first year, the student chooses a faculty advisor in their major area. The student works closely with his/her faculty advisor to choose the best sequence of classes to fulfill individual interests and majors. More extensive academic planning services are offered by the Academic Advising and Counseling Center. Also, services to help students choose a major are offered by the Career Center.
