Life before Gustavus:
I was born and raised just down the road in Mankato, MN and graduated from Mankato East High school in 2000. I was very active in high school competing in volleyball and track & field, as well as participating in diversity groups, community service, NHS, piano lessons, and youth groups. I continued my active lifestyle at Gustavus and participated in Track & Field, Psi Chi (psychology honor society), Student Senate, Gustavus Youth Outreach, Big Partner/Little Parner program, Proclaim, Collegiate Fellows, and Study Abroad. After completing my Master’s degree at MSU-Mankato, I am excited to be back at Gustavus!

What are your professional/work interests?
I have always enjoyed working with people in an educational setting and helping students prepare for their future. Finding the right college fit can be challenging for students and families and I enjoy offering information and answering questions to help to alleviate the stress and confusion during the college search process.

What is you best college search tip?
Visit college campuses! For many students, a valuable indicator in selecting a college can be the “campus feel” while visiting different schools. Meet with your Admission Counselor, take a tour with a current student, sit in on a class, meet with a coach or faculty member, or even do an overnight visit. See what it feels like to be a college student at a variety of schools.

What are your most recent professional/work projects?
Aside from visiting with students and families during campus visits, high school visits, and college fairs, I help with our Summer Snapshots and other open house events as well as oversee our overnight host program. I also look forward to coaching high jump for the Gustavus track & field program.

What do you learn from interacting with Gustavus students?
I really appreciate the genuinely friendly and positive energy of our Gustie students! It has been a fun and refreshing opportunity to interact with students who are active, involved, and passionate about what they do.

What do you value most about working at Gustavus?
I value the friendly and enriching environment here at Gustavus. Students, faculty, and staff are caring and supportive as they work together both in and out of the classroom. I have never been part of a more healthy, energetic, and well rounded community.

What are your hobbies?
I love cooking and eating…trying new recipes, restaurants, etc. I also love traveling—camping, hiking, biking, vacationing, and taking lots of pictures! Spending time with friends and family is always important to me. Good music, books, movies, and theater productions are also among my favorite pastimes.

How have you been involved in your community?
I have always felt that giving back to our community is important and have been involved in a variety of community service projects, programs, and diversity initiatives. Currently, I am involved with the Greater Mankato Diversity Council as a Prejudice Reduction Workshop facilitator. This opportunity allows me to visit elementary, middle, and secondary schools and help students become more aware and excited about issues relating to diversity.

What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
Aside from the awesome outdoor music events like Earth Jam and Battle of the Bands, I love the MAYDAY! Peace Conference every spring.  It is an awesome day devoted to issues of social justice and human rights.
