Life before Gustavus
I taught high school English, then worked for the Dayton Corporation, and was a teacher, curriculum specialist, program coordinator, and assitant campus director at Hennepin Technical College.

What are your professional/work interests?
Diversity-- I love learning about other people. I really enjoy working with students on campus who come from diverse backgrounds. I am determined to help the college become a community that respects and affirm diversity in all its varied form.

What is your best college search tip?
Do not be anonymous when you are at high school visits or when visiting college campuses. Meeting people will help with choosing a college and making the transition to college life.

What are your most recent professional/work projects?
As the co-chair of Enrollment Managers of the ELCA, I developed a survey of attitude and opinions regarding diversity on our 28 colleges and universities. We will review the survey results at our mid-year meeting in January.

What do you learn from interacting with Gustavus students?
I have a great deal of optimism about the youth in our college. I see students who really care about service to other-- students that want to be change-agents for good in our world.

What do you value most about working at Gustavus?
I appreciate that the college has core values that are at the heart of our decision-making process. Those values of community, justice, service, faith, and excellence match up with the core values that drive me in my day-to-day activities. I am blessed to be called to work at such a place.

What are your hobbies?
My wife and I are avid fisherpeople. This activity really gives me the opportunity to relax, appreciate the beauty that surrounds me, and use my wits to out-smart a big one.

How have you been involved in your community?
I have been president of our Lions Club, taught Sunday School, and have been president of the church council.

What is your favorite Gustavus tradition?
New student convocation. It is a wonderful day for our office to see these students of high ability and promise start their journey. The service is an excellent beginning to four life-changing years.
