The activity level at Gustavus is high; there's a lot to do here!  Most Gustavus students are significantly involved in many organizations.  And, students are great about supporting each other by attending each other's events.  (To see what's going on this week at Gustavus, look at the College Calendar.)

Most events on campus are planned by students and their organizations.  Here is a list of "recognized" student organizations (those groups that filed the paperwork with our Student Activities Office).

There are certainly more organizations and the opportunity to create new ones.  Explore what you could be involved in or make plans to start your own group; select the catergory from the list below or scroll down the entire page of organizations.


 

ACADEMIC

Anthropology Collective

The purpose of this organization is to promote the study and appreciation of anthropology as an academic discipline and to create a forum for  applied learning for all students interested in anthropology. This purpose will be accomplished by hosting speakers; colaborating w/other on-campus student groups, such as Lambda Alpha & the Indigenous Student Association to coordinate events.

Chemistry Club

To promote the teaching of natural sciences both on campus and in the community.  Also, we provide a link between chemistry students and faculty.

Communication Studies Club

The communication studies club is comprised of all Comm. Studies majors.  Every year we host two blood drives, a Christmas party for majors and other events.  We are most proud of our work on the blood drives-they extend campus wide.  The Comm. Studies Club is headed by an executive board and a faculty advisor in the department.

German Club

German Club is an organization dedicated to the organization and promotion of activities pertaining to German-speaking countries, German language, and German culture.

Gustavus Athletic Trainer's Association (GATA)

Advancement, encouragement, and improvement of the Athletic Training Student through various educational opportunities, exposure to the field of Athletic Training and promotion of good fellowship among all members of the organization.

History Club

An academic organization which explores historical issues and has activities relating to history.

Lambda Alpha Honorary Society (Anthropology)

To promote academic excellence & scholarship in the discipline of anthropology & to develop the skills of honor students in research & scholarly composition.

Lambda Alpha Nu  (Business)

For current Business students to share ideas, socialize, actively participate in the community & to continue the pursuit of knowledge in the field of business.

Literary Society

To spark interest in the literary arts throughout the Gustavus community and to provide an outlet for creative writing and practice.

MERGE

To help connect faculty to students and students to students in the Education department.

Pre-Law Society

The Pre-Law society represents the interests of the pre-law majors at GAC. The pre-law society works to bring speakers to camps related to the topic of law, as well as planning events that prepare majors for law school.

Society of Physics Students

To be a source of social and educational activities for Physics majors and the campus; to broaden people's understanding of Physics.

Student Educators Association

SEA is a student run professional development organization.  Education majors can join if they show interest or are a part of the Education Department.  There is a membership fee which covers banquets, speakers, information sessions on educational issues and social gatherings.

Student Nursing Association

GSNA is an organization to promote and recognize the nursing program at Gustavus Adolphus College.  It seeks to educate the Gustavus community concerning campus health issues while raising awareness of the nursing profession.

Eta Sigma Phi

Eta Sigma Phi works to develop and promote interest in classical study, and to promote a closer fraternal relationship among Latinists and Hellenists, and to engage in an effort to create interest in Classical study.

 


 

AWARENESS

Action Supporting All People (ASAP)

We are a grassroots, social justice organization, which is based upon the ideals of thinking globally and acting locally. We work through means of education awareness, and action to support universal equality on a campus and community level. Our goals function through dialogue, volunteerism, community awareness, direct activism, respecting diversity people and ideas and general peacefulness.

Building Bridges

Building Bridges is a student-initiated, student led diversity conference dedicated to addressing the pressing issues of today. This year's theme is focused on "Unspoken Voice."

DEA (Disability Enhancement Awareness)

To form a coalition of students, faculty, & staff working together to educate the community about disabilities & the roles they play in the educational, personal & professional world around us.

Democracy Matters

Democracy Matters is a non-partisan, student organization working for pro-democracy reforms on all levels of governments. More specifically, DM is concerned with the issue of money in politics.

Greens

It is the goal of the Gustavus Greens to inform the student body, faculty, & community regarding environmental issues & concerns.

Peer Assistants  (PAs)

Peer Assistants recognize and confront lifestyle issues facing our campus.  We are always open to comments and suggestions.  The Peer Assistants focus on the following areas: relationships, drug and alcohol use/misuse, sexuality, and time management among others.  If there is a campus issue you think should be dealt with, we can help.

Queers & Allies

To increase awareness of the GLBT community and to provide support for members of that community as well as allies.

Wellness Advisory Board

Our purpose is to promote and encourage wellness on campus via programming, marketing, and leadership.  This will be accomplished by collaborating with all wellness services, campus-wide community and all other available means.

Womyn's Awareness Center

This group of students is dedicated to increasing community awareness of women's needs, contributions, and potential for growth and service.  The center's underlying assumption is that the advancement of women will benefit all of society.


CULTURAL

International Cultures Club (ICC)

Previously called the International Student Organization, this club invites all Gustavus students to join international students in exploring world cultures, sharing ideas and celebrating one another's differences.  The ICC plans activities that help the Gustavus community expand its cultural horizons.

Japanese Club

We are a group who are interested in Japan and/or things Japanese.  We try to both explore our own areas of interest and also introduce aspects of Japanese culture to the campus as a whole.  In the past we have cooked a Japanese dinner each semester and participated in other events throughout the year.

OLAS (Orgulla Latino Association) Latino Pride Association

To provide students of GAC, as well as the St. Peter community, with venue to learn about Latin America and Spanish cultures. It is to develop awareness and promote the history and language of Latin American and Spanish countries through activities and events in which an interchange of cultures will take place.

Pan-Afrikan Student Organization  (PASO)

The Pan-Afrikan Student Organization's (formerly known as the Black Student Organization) goal is to unite Afrikan people of the world across geographical boundaries, political ideologies, and ethnic differences.

Viking Society (Scand. Studies)

To serve as an arena for Scandinavian interested Gustavus students to gather in order to share cultural and language ideas. To promote Scandinavian Studies awareness on campus through campus wide events.


GOVERNMENT/LEADERSHIP

Campus Activities Board  (CAB)

CAB has fourteen executive members committed to programming a diverse range of engaging, entertaining, and educational campus events.  From rock concerts to recreation events, fine arts festivals to engaging speakers, CAB's efforts are designed to serve the entire student population.

Student Senate

The Gustavus Student Senate iss the body on campus where Gustavus students can have a say in important student issues.  The senate helps to finance many groups on campus and deals directly with the administration on student issues.

Ambassadors

To assist the various administrative offices of GAC in their needs (fundraising, advertising, etc.), and to serve as college Ambassadors to both the campus and the larger Minnesota community.

Inter Greek Senate  (IGS)

The Inter-Greek Senate, known as IGS, is the governing body for the recognized Fraternities and Sororities on campus.  Consisting of an executive board and representatives from each Greek organization, the IGS exists mainly to organize the various aspects for Greek life at Gustavus.

Student Athletic Advisory Board (SAAB)

Communication between student athletes & the athletic department staff.  Increase campus awareness of & participation in supporting intercollegiate athletics, organize community service, support for GAC athletic Alumni.


HONORARY

Beta Beta Beta  (Biology Club & Biological Honor Society)

National Honor Society whose purpose is to encourage and help students in the biological studies.

Kappa Delta Pi  (Education)

International Education honor society to recognize leadership & academic achievement as well as offer opportunities for professional growth in the education field.

Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) (Sociology)

AKD's purpose is to promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, research of social problems, and other such social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition; and provide opportunities to advance the educational endeavors for students of sociology.

Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science)

PSA is a group dedicated to academic excellence, service, and the pursuit of political awareness. Students were selected for involvement in this group based on their academic merits and interest in Political Science and are dedicated to serve the campus community with their gifts and talents.

Psi Chi (Psychology)

A local chapter of the psychology honor society, Psi Chi. We work to bring speakers and events to campus related to the field of psychology and assist psychology majors with their continuing education.

Sigma Tau Delta (English)

Sigma Tau Delta is the International Honor Society for students of English.

Guild of St. Lucia

Honor Society for Senior Women.


LANGUAGE/CULTURAL

Asian Cultures Club

The Asian Cultures Club is an organization that is dedicated to enhancing cultural awareness and understanding throughout and outside the Gustavus community.

French Club (La Societe' Francaise)

To promote French language and culture.

Indigenous Student Association

The Indigenous Student Association wants to learn about Indigenous cultures, to promote those cultures, to raise greater awareness of those cultures, and to develop connections to Indigenous groups in the area.

Russian Club

The purpose of the Russian Club is to expose students to Russian culture and language via events such as movie nights, tea parties, and literary exhibitions and discussions. We hope to raise interest in Russian lifestyles and customs.


MEDIA

Gustavian Weekly

To provide the Gustavus community with campus news.

Gustavian Yearbook

The Gustavian yearbook is a student-run organization.  Workstudy and volunteer positions available include 2 co-editors, various section editors, and photographers.  The Gustavian Yearbook strives to provide an accurate portrayal of life at Gustavus which will be produced into a resource that will be cherished for many years to come.

KGSM radio

KGSM is a student run on-campus radio station.  We broadcast online and hopefully will soon be operating on an FM signal.  We give students a chance, either through work study or volunteering, to get involved with all kinds of new music and we offer a glimpse of what professional broadcasting may be like.

Gustavus TV

A television channel by, for and from the Gustavus community.


RECREATIONAL

Cheerleading Squad

To support Gustavus football and men's basketball and encourage school spirit and crowd participation.

Dance Team

To promote Gustavus spirit at home sporting events and represent Gustavus at collegiate dance team competitions.

Men’s Ultimate Frisbee

 

Women’s Rugby Club

To play competitive rugby, while improving our skills and staying in shape.

Women's Lacrosse

Women's lacrosse is a new club sport at Gustavus yet it is growing with players and enthusiasm.  Our team is constantly looking for new members, both experienced and novice, to join our roster.

Women's Ultimate Frisbee Team

The Gustavus Women's Ultimate Frisbee team welcomes any student to join us in developing our ultimate frisbee skills for recreational, competitive, or social purposes.

Gustavus Outdoor Enthusiasts  (GOE)

Gustavus Outdoor Enthusiasts (GOE) is a cooperative, common adventure program open to all Gustavus students, faculty, and staff.  Activities and trips vary from weekday afternoon outings near campus to full day weekend adventures to extended trips during breaks.

Juggling Assembly of Gustavus (JAG)

JAG is a group that provides a fun and relaxed atmosphere in which the Gustavus community can learn, practice, and demonstrate juggling and juggling related skills.  Creative object manipulation is a great way to release stress, build coordination, or just have fun.

Swing Club

The Swing Club is a student organization formed to provide social dancing opportunities for all who are interested and willing to learn.  Our goal is to provide opportunities for students and others to learn a variety of swing dance styles and moves in a fun and socially exciting atmosphere.


RELIGIOUS

Gustavus Youth Outreach  (GYO)

Gustavus Youth Outreach is committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and providing an opportunity for Gustavus Adolphus College students to serve God by participating in off-campus Christian youth ministry.

Men's Christian Fellowship

Through fellowship, we want to reach out to the Gustavus community & offer a place for males to come & share their beliefs. By forming a Men's Christian Fellowship organization, it will allow us as growing men to share time & experiences with other believers.

Newman Center

A group of students dedicated to building a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith.

Prepare Ministries

The purpose of Prepare Ministries shall be to bring glory and honor to God and grow maturely in knowledge of Him (Heb 6:1-3, 1Jn 2:5-6) while preparing the way for Christ's return by facilitating life-on-life mentoring relationships, regularly sponsoring global mission trips and holding regular campus meetings that incorporate worship, instructional Bible-based teaching, prayer, ministry, fellowship, outreach and evangelism.

Proclaim

A Christian student-led time of praise and worship, teaching, or speakers and fellowship.  All are welcome at Tuesdays at 9 pm in the Dive.


SERVICE

Amigos

To provide a link between the Gustavus community and the Latino community of St. Peter.  Also we provide practical situations for Gustavus' Spanish students to use their language.

Big Partner  Little Partner

Volunteer organization that matches a child from the St. Peter community to a Gustavus student.

Common Ground Mentoring Program

We aim to give 7-9th grade students in St. Peter a safe place to be on Wednesdays. We do group mentoring using various activities.

Elders

To prepare students for fulfilling lives of leadership & service in society by providing an active link to opportunities & resources in service.

Gustie Buddies

Gustie Buddies is a program for students in the St. Peter junior high & high school with developmental cognitively delayed individuals. Volunteers will meet with a student 3-4 times/month.

Habitat for Humanity

This campus chapter works in partnership with the St. Peter affiliate to build affordable housing.  We help build houses, do other building projects, fundraise, and organize awareness events to educate the community about Habitat's work.

Study Buddies

Gustavus students provide classroom assistance and tutoring to all ages, including reading to 3 and 4 year olds at Head Start, helping 1st through 4th graders improve their reading comprehension skills, mentoring junior high youth in a variety of academic settings, among others.

Wednesday Friends

Wednesday Friends is an organization that strives to enhance socialization for adults with a mental illness by going to the St. Peter Power Up Clubhouse weekly to help lead recreation and leisure activities for clubhouse consumers.

Alpha Phi Omega  (Service)

We are the only service fraternity on campus and strive to help the Gustavus community, St. Peter community as well as the Minnesota community through service events.


SOCIAL GREEK

Chi Kappa Chi Sorority

The members of Chi Kappa Chi are organized for the purpose of providing an opportunity at GAC for the development of community & individual growth.  We value the importance of maintaining an attitude of respect, responsibility, leadership, and maturity through the involvement of social interaction, academic endeavors, and community service.

Delta Phi Omega Sorority

The purpose of this social Greek organization is to promote leadership and social cohesion within the Gustavus Community.

Epsilon Pi Alpha Fraternity (“Eppies”)-

We are a fraternal organization dedicated to the bonds of brotherhood in addition to serving both the Gustavus and St. Peter communities.

Nu Upsilon Gamma (“Greys”)

The social fraternity Nu Upsilon Gamma provides for members of Gustavus Adolphus College, the opportunity to share their abilities with both college and surrounding community.

Omega Kappa fraternity (“OKs”)

To promote brotherhood among men and to serve the Gustavus community and the St. Peter community as a whole.

Phi Alpha Fraternity (Alphs)

The Phi Alpha fraternity at Gustavus is an organization founded on the general premise of fostering and maintaining friendships, as well as developing lasting new ones.  The bond that is created is strong and taken very seriously.  The bond is one of brotherhood.

Psi Kappa Chi Fraternity (“Kappas”)

The Psi Kappa Chi fraternity is a group of gentlemen dedicated to academic excellence, the development of brotherhood and the advancement of Gustavus ideals.

Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority (“Tri Sigmas”)

Sigma Sigma Sigma (Sigmas) is the first and only national sorority on the Gustavus campus.  Tri Sigma is an international sisterhood with over 110 chapters nation wide!  Tri Sigma was originally founded by a group of women in Farmville, Virginia.

Tau Mu Tau Sorority

The Tau Mu Tau Sorority is a close-knit group of women.  Our small number makes us unique because it allows for closer personal relationships between each and every sister.  The TM's annual events include pre-rush activities in the fall and spring among other events throughout the year.

Tau Psi Omega Fraternity (“Reds”)

To promote and cultivate in its members a high degree of moral and religious principles. To cooperate in all ways with the college. To provide a social and recreational outlet for its members.

Theta Xi Gamma Sorority

To enjoy the greatest benefits of a social sorority and to exemplify the finest standards of social, academic, and community life at Gustavus Adolphus College.


SPECIAL INTEREST

Pro-Life Gusties

We have three objectives: to inform and educate others that 1) Human life begins at conception and ends in natural death, 2) To increase awareness of controversial issues in modern society that threaten human life, and 3) To promote adoption in any crisis pregnancy.

Anime & Manga Assoc.

Spread understanding and enjoyment of Japanese culture.

Art History Club

To provide cultural experiences, discussions and exploration of art history in our community to Gustavus student through field trips, community events and scheduled club meetings.

Birding Club

The group is open to both students and faculty interested in observing birds in the wild.  Field trips will target specific species and locations, and could last anywhere from a Saturday morning, to the entire weekend.

College Democrats

To increase awareness and discussion about a wide array of issues and to work to help elect candidates from the Democratic party.

College Republicans

This organization is designed to increase awareness of the conservative viewpoint in political issues. We also hope to strengthen overall political involvement.

Film Society

The society is set up with the objective of meeting any and all needs of the Gustavus film-loving community be it in production, appreciation or just plain old viewing.

Gustie Greeters

This group of energetic, knowledgeable students welcomes our new students and families to campus during move-in day each fall.  The Greeters are here to help new students connect to Gustavus and ease the transition to being a Gustie.

I am…We are Theatre Company

We are an organization that presents social justice issues through theatre.

LineUs

Once upon a time, there was an improv group, and it was good.  And the Lord said, "Go out and entertain ye peoples.  No questions asked."   And such is what we do.

Music Council

The mission of the Music Council is to serve the Gustavus Community by fostering the development of the GAC music programs in order to allow student to attain their full potential as both musicians and Gustavus students.

ROTC (Army ROTC)

Army ROTC provides individuals with tools, training, and experiences they need to become officers in the U.S. Army.  Army ROTC is an elective curriculum that is taken with your required college classes that helps individuals in reaching success in any competitive environment.

SHIFT (Students Helping Integrate Fair Trade)
