At Gustavus, we emphasize that every experience you have in college has the potential to be a learning opportunity. That's why we strive to ensure that you can select from a variety of exceptional opportunities - personal, global, cultural, social, spiritual, intellectual, athletic, musical, artistic, and those that are just plain fun - that will shape your life and create your "home away from home".

The top student-attended events include Earth Jam, Christmas in Christ Chapel, President's Ball, Building Bridges Diversity Conference, Mayday! Peace Conference, and the Nobel Conference.

Earth Jam is an all-day event featuring local performers along with activities and, of course, food. This year's band line-up included Agape, Pharaohs of Rhythm, Ushers, Mason Jennings and Bobby Llama. Other activities for students were a Bungee Run, Laser Tag, and tie-dyeing. This year, the Peer Assistants preceded this Saturday event with a Friday night beach party poolside in Lund Center.

Christmas in Christ Chapel is the annual Christmas festival. This event brings over 6,000 visitors to campus to hear nearly 300 student performers including The Gustavus Choir, Christ Chapel Choir, Lucia Singers, Chapel Ringers, Gustavus Orchestra, Brass Choir and Chapel Dancers.

The Nobel Conference, attracts 7,000 visitors to campus each year to hear the world's foremost scholars, including Nobel laureates and researchers, debate contemporary issues related to the sciences, economics, peace, and literature.

MAYDAY! Peace Conference is attended by almost 1,000 people. The name MAYDAY! carries a dual significance: it is the international distress call for help as well as the day symbolizing the return of spring, bringing renewal and hope.

President's Ball is the annual formal dinner and dance hosted by President Peterson for all Gustavus students. Last year almost 800 students were in attendance for the annual ball. First-year through senior students attend the ball, dancing the night away to the Steve Wright Big Band.

The Building Bridges Conference promotes student-initiated change in diversity and peace issues. The conference brings approximately 450 students from area colleges and universities to Gustavus. Recent speakers at the conference have come from New York, California, Indiana and Minnesota.
